As MLFB begins its inaugural draft, the burning questions on everyones minds are not only who will be playing in the league, but also, what are the team names and where will the franchises be located?
Earlier this week, MLFB’s Vice President of Media Relations, Nick Athan, sat down with Examiner’s Andy Kossak to update our fans:
“With Major League Football’s (MLFB) inaugural draft set to take place this week, many continue to wonder which cities will be hosting teams for the debut season this spring. As the excitement builds for the three-day selection process, Nick Athan, MLFB’s VP of Media Relations, clearly explained why team locations haven’t been announced as of yet, and it’s related to the new TV deal.
“Once the two-year deal was consummated between MLFB and ASN (American Sports Network), cities began approaching us, not only about the 2016 season, but 2017 as well,” Athan said. “Thus it was the unanimous decision of the management team to explore all additional options before naming our cities for the upcoming season. In short order, our cities will be revealed and people will be surprised to learn how much work has already been done within our potential MLFB markets.”
MLFB’s two-year deal with ASN includes broadcasting all regular season and post-season games in 2016 and 2017. ASN is slated to broadcast all 40 regular-season games during the 2016 spring season, and likely more in 2017 when the league hopes to expand from 8 to 12 franchises.
An earlier report had a tentative list of cities that could have a franchise in 2016. That list included Orlando, Fla., and Oklahoma City among others.”
