Prior to becoming a sports agent, Mr. Murtha was a Federal Prosecutor handling complex cases in the financial sector in Chicago, Illinois from 1970-1975. Since leaving public service, Mr. Murtha remains President of Sports Consultants, Inc., an Illinois-based firm representing athletes in football and baseball.
Throughout his career he’s gained extensive labor management experience in private industry as well as professional sports and formed the first union for Arena Football players in 2000.
Mr. Murtha is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and Northwestern Law School where he was granted two Ford foundation Fellowships for advanced study in Criminal Law. Since 2006 he has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Northwestern University Graduate School where he teaches Sports Labor Relations and Negotiations.
Before he began his expansive career in sports and law, Mr. Murtha served as Counsel for one of the largest Labor Pension funds in the United States from 1966 – 1970.
