Jerry Hardaway

Jerry Hardaway spent the early stages of his career as a position coach at the college level. Ultimately, he would become one of the NFL’s finest scouts but he never stopped teaching players. He began his coaching career at the University of Memphis before beginning a six-year run at Grambling State University coaching Running Backs, Tight Ends and Special Teams. In 1982, he was named Grambling State University Coach of the Year.

With that success, he became the Running Backs coach and lead recruiter at California University. Over his three-year tenure for the Golden Bears program, he was named ‘Recruiting Coach of the Year’ in 1984. Looking for his next challenge he became a scout for the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals. In the career that began in 1987, he was responsible for scouting future Cardinals Wide Receivers Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald Running Back Thomas Jones, and Safety Antrel Rolle. As a result of that success, Jerry Hardaway was named the Fritz-Pollard NFL Scout of Year in 2009.
