WILMINGTON, DE / Marketwired / Aug 4, 2015 / Major League Football, Inc. (OTC PINK: MLFB) (“MLFB” or the “Company”), a new, professional spring-football league scheduled to kick off in 2016, today announced its plan to locate one of its professional, spring-league football franchises in the city of Akron. MLFB is in discussions with InfoCision Stadium — Summa Field’s 30,000 venue to serve as the franchise’s home facility.
MLFB’s approach in Akron also includes a series of community-centric outreach programs to help build a fan base, support local businesses and develop football talent in the surrounding area.
“Akron marks our sixth city which we are in active conversations to establish a team and franchise for Major League Football. We look forward to bringing spring league football to the fans of Akron and its surrounding communities,” began Wes Chandler, President of Major League Football. “As we engage in discussions with InfoCision Stadium — Summa Field officials and the city’s local business community, we hope to create a mutually beneficial relationship which will allow the city and our franchise the ability to expand the rich tradition of football in Akron and through the northeastern corridor of Ohio,” Mr. Chandler stated.
Major League Football has begun contacting potential host venues across the country to establish cities that will become the inaugural season team sites. MLFB will review the venues in those cities, evaluate fan and local business support and other criteria to determine the cities that are the best fit for a MLFB team. The announcement of the LOI in Akron brings MLFB’s announced quantity of venues to six since January 2015.
MLFB is in discussions with numerous prospective host cities and plans to make additional announcements over the next few months expanding that number.
About Akron
As the fifth largest city in the state of Ohio, the northeastern city of Akron is nestled between Cleveland and Canton. In the early 1900s, the city of Akron came to prominence as the Rubber Capitol of the World with the likes of General Tire, B.F. Goodrich, Firestone and Goodyear located in the Ohio city. In fact, during World War II the Goodyear Airdock was famous for building Airships, blimps, dirigibles, and zeppelins.
Along with fortune 500 companies First Energy and Goodyear Rubber and Tire Company, which has maintained its corporate office in Akron since 1898, Summit Health System is Akron’s largest employer with 10,000 workers. The city also boasts a free downtown Wi-Fi corridor in the Akron suburbs of Goodyear Heights, East Akron, North Hill, Firestone Park, Kenmore, and West Akron.
