Not many football fans have heard of Huntingdon College — heck, not many football fans have hear of wide receiver Taylor Belsterling, either. But one man had, a man who is in a position to change that name recognition.
That man is general manager Jerry Hardaway, and when he selected Belsterling with the fourth overall pick in the 2016 MLFB Draft, he knew what he was getting his hands on.
“This young man comes from high character. In talking to the coaches down there he’s represented that team well,” Hardaway said.” And he’s the kind of guy who makes the kind of catches you need when your team needs them.”
Clutch is key for Hardaway and Cottrell’s team, and by taking Bolstering with their first of 70 selections, their banking on him to be the playmaker they can always turn to when the pressure grows.
From Belsterling’s point of view, he’s a player who generated some buzz coming out of school, but because he ran out of eligibility his senior season due to attending a community college for his first year and a half out of high school, he went undrafted in 2014.
It’s always been an uphill climb to the NFL for him, and when asked about the opportunity of being drafted as a franchise player for Major League Football, he couldn’t help but jump at the chance.
“It’s a new league so I am really excited to see what they bring to the table and I’m excited to give my input and be an athlete again,” Bolstering said. “It’s a big responsibility and I’m not going to take it for granted one bit, with that being said, I know I’m going to have to come in on day one and be a leader on the team.”
Belsterling is looking to become just the second Huntingdon player to ever sign an NFL contract.
