For 30 years, Wayne ‘Buddy’ Geis has coached at the professional and collegiate levels molding young men into outstanding football players. His journey began in 1974 as the coaching assistant at the University of Arizona. That coaching stint allowed him to become the offensive coordinator at Duke University, Tulane University and the University of Kansas. In 1984, he became the wide receivers coach for the USFL’s Jacksonville Bulls. Three years later he was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Memphis State University.
In 1988 under Head Coach Lindy Infante, Geis became the wide receivers coach for the Green Bay Packers. It was in Green Bay where Geis did some of his best work molding the Hall of Fame career of Sterling Sharpe. In 1996, Geis was hired as offensive assistant and assistant quarterbacks coach for the Indianapolis Colts, where he worked exclusively with Quarterback, Jim Harbaugh.
After the Colts, Geis moved to the Dallas Cowboys working with Dave Campo. In Dallas, he guided the Hall of Fame careers of Quarterback Troy Aikman and Wide Receiver Michael Irvin. After two highly successful seasons in Dallas, Geis re-joined, Chan Gailey at Georgia Tech, as associate head coach and wide receivers coach. During his five-year tenure for the Yellow Jackets, Geis coached a pair of promising young wide receivers, Calvin Johnson and Demetrius Thomas, who became NFL stars for their respective teams, the Detroit Lions and the Denver Broncos.
